A tribute to Heath Ledger (April 4, 1979 – January 22, 2008)

With the release of the new movie the Dark Knight in July 08 (the sequel to Batman Begins - 2005), it is hard not to think of Heath Ledger, this great Australian actor who died of an overdose of sleeping pills. He was suffering from bouts of insomnia.
Ledger played the role of the Joker in the Dark Knight. To prepare for this role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character’s posture, voice and psychology and kept a diary in which he recorded the Joker’s thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance.
I was quite sad to hear the loss of such a great actor. He made his mark in the movie industry with the following movies: the ten things I hate about you, The patriot, Brokeback Mountain, A Knight’s Tale, Ned Kelly and finally the Dark Knight.

Australian slang - u love it or u dont!

It’s true. It’s unavoidable. Living in the ‘’downunder’’ for a number of years will have an impact on the way you speak. I have certainly picked up a few interesting ‘’Aussie’’ words which might give you a few giggles. The first word will be the British version, followed by the Aussie equivalent. Ready?
Friend = mate
Making love = rooting
"U-ey" (or "U-ie") is frequently used for 'U-turn' (Ex: "I missed my turn, so I banged a U-ey")
Complaining or feeling sorry for yourself = whingeing
Complaining = Sooking
Thanks = ta
Oh God = Crikey
Chips – crisps
Mangetout - Snow pea
Aubergine - Eggplant
Oy! = Hey!
I’ll pay this time = my shout
Also you will find that Australians love using diminutives. For ex:
Afternoon – arvo
Barbecue – Barbie, the backyard Barbie, an Australian institution!
Mcdonalds – Maccas (as in Mckers)
Australian – aussie
Ammunition - Ammo
Wollen Hat - Beanie
Biscuit - Bikkie
Man, Guy – Bloke
Lazy person – Bludger
Breakfast – brekkie
Outside the city – Bush
Chicken – chook
Present – pressie
Throw or be sick (vomit) – chuck
Cup of tea - Cuppa
Tired – Knackered
Free things – freebie
Mosquito – Mozzie
No problem – no worries
Good for you! – Good On ya!
English person – Pommie
Sick day – Sickie(ex. Am gonna chuck a sickie tomorra!)
A long way from civilisation – woop woop
Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!!!

What is it about TV shows that gets you hooked???

Am addicted to TV shows!. There i said it...Whether it be Grey's Anatomy, Prison Break, or Desperate Housewives, there is something to be said about following a tv show week after week..
What makes a show so compelling?
A clever written script with a well carried out plot and excellent storylines. And of course talented actors.
That is why each week finds us right on schedule in front of the tellie where for about 45 mins to 1 hour, we are hooked. We relate to those TV characters. We grow close to them. We feel for them. Either way, those TV characters lead us on an amazing journey.
I think it’s the suspense of it all that keeps us on the edge of our seats; followed by a wave of disappointment once the episode reaches to an end....The suspense, the anticipation of what’s next, the need to know what is going to happen...’’Will Scofield be able to break out of Sona???’’ ‘’Are Meredith and McDreamy finally getting back together?’’
It’s all so exciting ... and also frustrating too when you reach the finale of a season... And then a couple of months go by before you get your next fix.
It’s all so dramatic and gripping......A perfect example is the series Lost, where Locke leaves you in a state of turmoil with his ending dialogue ''We have to move the island!''
Huh??? What the ??? @£$*%$(%*@**$%£*
I must say the writers do a pretty damn good job at keeping us enthralled!!! My favourites are Grey’s Anatomy, Moonlight, Blood Ties, Heroes, Wildfire, Sex and The City & Lipstick Jungle.
Till the next great TV show...
(In your comments, you can also add your favourite TV shows) :P

''The Sufren Vibe''

Its friday 6.00 pm..everyone is looking forward to the weekend...and it usually starts off with Happy Hour at Sufren, Port Louis (mauritius)...And after a long week at work...its time to chill out, have a drink with friends and socialise before really starting the weekend...for example clubbin in the North (zenfan terribles) or even the latest hip place to be - Shotz in Flic en Flac...Sufren was meant to be this place where you could go still wearing your work clothes...tired after a long day at work...and hang out, relax...socialise and just generally have a good time with coworkers and friends or even ex classmates.
Now it has all changed...It has become too pretentious to my taste...there is this vibe there whereby you cant help from feelin like you are on the spot...people are checking you out, what you wearing...who you are with...etc...
There is this feeling that people go there to be seen or to show off maybe..it all seems very superficial and fake...
Its sad really that its come down to that....because i gotta admit that i used to go there..and it was a nice place to have some downtime...but now i am not so keen on goin...
If you still want to go to Sufren, my advice is to go there with a group of close friends (who couldnt care less) and just chill and do your thing!!!

Alex O'Loughlin...the sexy looking Aussie actor is so damn perfect for his role as vampire...he got that part really down...and the thing thats so appealing about him..is that rugged dark mysterious persona he has all throughout the season...u cant take your eyes away from the screen when he is on...i so hope that this show comes back again......time will tell....to all the moonlight fans out there....lets pray it does...and also watch out for the movie Whiteout starring Alex O'Loughlin which is coming out this Sep 19 2008...
