Australian slang - u love it or u dont!

It’s true. It’s unavoidable. Living in the ‘’downunder’’ for a number of years will have an impact on the way you speak. I have certainly picked up a few interesting ‘’Aussie’’ words which might give you a few giggles.The first word will be the British version, followed by the Aussie equivalent. Ready?
Friend = mate
Making love = rooting
"U-ey" (or "U-ie") is frequently used for 'U-turn' (Ex: "I missed my turn, so I banged a U-ey")
Complaining or feeling sorry for yourself = whingeing
Complaining = Sooking
Thanks = ta
Oh God = Crikey
Chips – crisps
Mangetout - Snow pea
Aubergine - Eggplant
Oy! = Hey!
I’ll pay this time = my shout
Also you will find that Australians love using diminutives. For ex:
Afternoon – arvo
Barbecue – Barbie, the backyard Barbie, an Australian institution!
Mcdonalds – Maccas (as in Mckers)
Australian – aussie
Ammunition - Ammo
Wollen Hat - Beanie
Biscuit - Bikkie
Man, Guy – Bloke
Lazy person – Bludger
Breakfast – brekkie
Outside the city – Bush
Chicken – chook
Present – pressie
Throw or be sick (vomit) – chuck
Cup of tea - Cuppa
Tired – Knackered
Free things – freebie
Mosquito – Mozzie
No problem – no worries
Good for you! – Good On ya!
English person – Pommie
Sick day – Sickie(ex. Am gonna chuck a sickie tomorra!)
A long way from civilisation – woop woop
